With the holiday season approaching, one gift families don’t want to receive is head lice. The holidays are one of the peak seasons for head lice as children celebrate with lots of hugging and close contact.
Lice Clinics of America® – Wichita wants to share their Lice Free 1-2-3 message this month. Dealing with head is lice as simple as 1-2-3, 1) Get checked; 2) If you have lice, you can be lice-free in an hour; and 3) If you don’t have lice, use prevention products to keep them away.
Fall and winter are peak lice seasons, according to Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions. Head lice spread more during the holidays as families celebrate, kids spend more time together, sleep over more, and spend more time playing and hugging. The holidays can already be a stressful time adding on the stress of head lice is more than most want to tackle.
The stress of dealing with head lice has grown considerably worse in recent years with the arrival of so-called ‘super lice’—lice that are immune to the pesticides used in the most popular lice treatment products. Research conducted in 2016 and published in the Journal of Medical Entomology found that 98 percent of lice in 42 states have developed genetic resistance to pyrethroids, the class of pesticides used in traditional lice products. Pyrethroids have also been linked to health problems in children.
Lice Clinics of America – Wichita is the exclusive provider of head lice treatment using the pesticide-free, FDA-cleared AirAllé® medical device. Developed by researchers at the University of Utah, the AirAllé device uses carefully controlled, heated air to quickly dehydrate the bugs. It was shown in clinical trials to kill live lice and more than 99 percent of eggs (nits). Certified technicians deliver treatment, and the entire process takes about an hour and is guaranteed to be effective.
To help keep the stress away before it even starts, the Wichita clinic offers preventative spray, conditioner, and shampoo products that serve as lice repellent. These products include a non-toxic solution that smells perfectly pleasant to humans but is offensive to head lice.
